Dell Inspiron 14 7420: The Design and the Basics
Dell Inspiron 14 7420 2-in-1’s Intel Core i7-1255U CPU includes the most recent version of Intel mobile CPUs, both low-power Efficient cores (E-cores with eight cores) as well as multi-threaded Performance Cores (P-cores two of them) A configuration that is similar to the BIG.little architecture that is used in many ARM processors. The Performance cores reach 4.7GHz and can support thread-doubling (the E-cores do not) which means that it has 10 cores total and allows up to 12 simultaneous processing threads. Because of this, the Inspiron can run on a small four-cell 54-watt-hour battery. The more powerful Intel Core i7-1260P in this Inspiron 16 2-in-1 is able to draw more power and comes equipped with a 6-cell, battery with 87 watts per hour.
The keyboard on the Inspiron 14 provides ample space between keys as well as a bigger touchpad than the average laptop that has a 14-inch screen. The 16:10 touchscreen offers a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. Unfortunately, it’s the only display option available, and a bigger screen would be appreciated. (More about that in our screen tests.) The bezels on the sides of the screen are thin, which helps make the screen appear bigger than it actually is. The upper and lower bezels appear more substantial. The enclosure is 0.62 (front width) and 0.7 (rear size) and 12.4 9.8 inches. The initial weight is reasonable at 3.5 pounds. It’s not much to carry around campus, given the fact that 3.5 pounds is the average weight of a typical textbook.
